This week, families can attend a Shark Week party in DUMBO, watch a teen classic in Brooklyn Bridge Park, learn about composting in Domino Park, attend a wildflower festival in Greenpoint, check out a new art exhibit in Sunset Park, learn about dog shows in Bushwick, and more!

MONDAY

Free Admission Days at the Pier 2 Roller Skating Rink | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Mondays & Fridays | 3:30pm-6:00pm | FREE admission but skate rental is $8 and skate mate rental is $6

Come to the Pier 2 Roller Skating Rink for some free family fun and exercise. Enjoy the fresh air and gorgeous views as you skate around the rink.

TUESDAY

Tot Time Tuesdays | Shirley Chisholm State Park

Tuesdays | 10:00am-11:30am | Ages 2-5, but all are welcome

Come to the Hendrix Creek Patio for a fun morning of toddler-friendly activities, including crafts, storytime at 10:30am and a hike at 11:00am.

Kids Create: Sand Art Bottle | Kensington

Tuesday, July 28th | 2:00pm-3:00pm | Ages 6-12 with caregiver

Sand art originated in the nineteenth century and consists of layering different colors of sand in a bottle to create stripes, patterns, or images. Come by the Kensington Library to make your own sand art bottle. This event will take place outside, weather permitting.

Storytime in the Park | Fort Greene

Wednesdays in May-October | 11:00am

Sing, read, and play with librarians from Walt Whitman Library in Fort Greene Park! Have fun hearing great picture books read aloud and playing with other children during this program. For children of all ages and their caregivers. This program will be located at the bottom of the Monument stairs near Myrtle Playground and runs on Wednesdays at 11:ooam-11:45am from May 13th-October 14th.

Calling all parents and caregivers with children! Join a Prospect Park Alliance Naturalist for a leisurely stroll along Prospect Park’s waterways. Movies With A View: Clueless | Brooklyn Bridge Park

One of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s most popular series, Movies With A View presented by Persol, returns for its 26th season with outdoor films on Thursday evenings in July and August – expanding with an additional family film night on September 18th. Come early to enjoy a picnic on the lawn and refreshing waterfront breezes, with New York Harbor and Manhattan skyline views like no other as the sun sets. Entry is free and first-come, first serve starting at 6:00 PM. Movies begin at sunset. This week’s screening will be Clueless (PG-13, 1995, 97 minutes), a beloved film adapted from Jane Austen’s Emma about a high school student playing matchmaker for her peers and teachers is a perfect movie to watch on the lawn with teens.

Curious about the compost program at Domino Park? Meet Horticulture team member, Justis, to learn about the compost lifecycle and how food scraps are transformed into nutrient-rich soil. Participants will have the opportunity to watch the park’s industrial size composter, the Rocket, in action! Meet at the Compost Tent at the Fog Feature (S 3rd & River St).

Best in Show! Presented by AKC Museum of the Dog | Bushwick

What exactly is a dog show? Find out through stories, artworks, collections items, and crafts with education staff from the AKC Museum of the Dog. Through reading a story, exploring real objects from the AKC Museum of the Dog’s collections, and making a craft, participants will learn all about the art and process of showing a dog at a conformation show at the Dekalb Library.

Calling all caregivers and young children – join for Storytime with Brooklyn Public Library on Friday afternoons in June and July! Transforming neighborhood stories into an immersive experience, the exhibition features paintings and dioramas exploring community, play, resilience, and the evolving urban landscape. A fourth generation beekeeper, Andrew Cote is a pioneer in urban beekeeping. Join Andrew in front of the Domino beehives to meet the Domino bees, learn how they contribute to the overall ecosystem of the Park and how the honey is made!

Come to Books are Magic’s Montague Street location for a special storytime with Chris Baker. Weaver and the Web is a picture book that leads readers through the ups and downs of one orb-weaver spider’s night. From making her web, re-making her web, and eventually ensnaring some succulent moths, this moonlit adventure encourages readers to see the world from a spider’s perspective.

Slow Summer Reading Parties with Reading Rhythms | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Enjoy music on the Lefferts Historic House porch and hear Sister Shawne’ spin the songs that gave Chatel strength, happiness, peace of mind and soulful comfort.
