Clinton Hill shelter for migrants will close
The city has announced that it will close the mega-shelter at 47 Hall Street, which houses 3,350 migrants at its capacity. The shelter, one of the city’s largest, is slated to close by June 2025. The closure is part of a bigger city-wide initiative to close 46 shelters as the number of migrant arrivals in New York City has declined dramatically. Many Clinton Hill residents have voiced strong opposition to the shelter, citing an increase in crime, trash, and panhandling since it opened.

Bargemusic vessel leaves Brooklyn Bridge Park
Bargemusic, the nearly 50-year-old floating concert hall docked at Pier 1, has left Brooklyn Bridge Park, announcing that their 150-year-old barge must be put out of commission. The 19th-century coffee barge, which has been home to chamber music concerts since 1977, was towed away to a shipyard in Staten Island. The boat’s hull had been eroded by salt water, and it was determined that the vessel was beyond restoration.
Brooklyn Bridge Park has offered performance space in the park’s Boathouse near Pier 4 until the organization can find a new boat. Much like the original barge, the Boathouse also has stunning views of the East River and Manhattan skyline for concert-goers to enjoy. Bargemusic hopes to resume its concerts starting in April.
